Love and Hate is a novella that takes place in Portugal (Porto,Cascais, and Lisbon). It is a love story about Leonor and Manel, two teenagers who fall in love at first sight. Leonor is a young, smart girl who has a very strict parents. However, it does not mean that Leonor should stay at home every night.

Manel is a young, cute boy who takes Leonor to the parties. They dance, swim and sing at the beaches of Portugal. It was all great until Leonor meets a young member of the band who is immediately attracted to Leonor. Of course, Manel gets very angry and all jealous and he breaks up with Leonor and goes to study medicine in Porto.

Leonor is broken-hearted. She calls him everyday, but Manel never responds. She is desperate and even starts hating him a little bit. After all, she decides that they simply weren’t meant for each other. Who knows? Maybe it’s better that way because they will never see each other again. The story gets complicated when Leonor comes back to Porto and runs into Manel.

Leonor finds herself questioning about her feelings.

This book is a good summer read and I am glad that I read it now, during summer because all of Lara’s descriptions got me daydreaming about those stunning beaches of Portugal. You just can’t read it without wishing to be right there.

She stepped out of the car and took in the sight of her new work place. The building was gorgeous. It was a white three-story building with pink flowered vines running up each side of the entrance way. The smell of salt was in the air from the sea and with it being such a warm day, she could still feel the cool ocean breeze. Which she had always loved

I think I’m in love with these descriptions because they are just what I need. There were too many descriptions like this one and it was hard for me to choose which one to post here. I really want to go to Portugal now.

She smiled in return and sipped at the rosé. It was refreshing and sweet, and in the evening sunlight, it perfectly matched the dreamy view. The fading warmth of the sun mixing with the cool ocean breeze stirred that part of her once more.

The love story between Leonor and Manel is so romantic and cute and ugggh.. It made me emotional so many times. I was sad at the beginning of the book because Manel was kind of stubborn and he did not want to hear what Leonor has to say. On the other hand, I understand him somehow. He is deeply in love with her, and just seeing her talking to that random guy was just.. painful, I would say.

I loved how Leonor was strong enough to move on with her life without him. She is a successful architect and she has it all. Also, I noticed how she changes once Manel leaves her. But, she had no choice! Of course that she would go on with her life and do her best. She deserves only the greatest things!

But, I repeat, the romance between them two is the cutest! I can’t get enough of it.

‘You know what I realized that day?’
His voice was so low, she was afraid the sea would swallow his words.
‘What?’ She prompted breathlessly, her heart hammering in her chest.
‘How much I wanted to kiss you,’ he whispered.

To sum it up, I quite enjoyed reading this book. Lara Wilde is an author that will always be special to me because she writes good things, but her work is unrecognized. She is brilliant and the world should know her and her books. Love and Hate is a perfect light, summer read and I can see myself bringing this book with me on holiday. The plot was cute and easy to follow. The characters are cool and I felt like I could relax together with them. There is no need to get into a deep observation of them. All you need is to sit back and enjoy yourselves.

If you want to read something that will relax you, then I suggest picking up this book, you might enjoy it.
