Book Review | This Train is Being Held by Ismee Amiel Williams

SYNOPSIS
When private school student Isabelle Warren first meets Dominican-American Ale Rosario on the downtown 1 train, she remembers his green eyes and his gentlemanly behavior. He remembers her untroubled happiness, something he feels all rich kids must posess. That, and her long dancer legs.

Over the course of multiple subway encounters spanning the next three years, Isabelle learns of Alex’s struggle with his father, who is hell-bent on Alex being a contender for the major leagues, despite Alex’s desire to go to college and become a poet.

Alex learns about Isabelle’s unstable mother, a woman with a prejudice against Latino men. But fate – and the 1 train – throw them together when Isabelle needs Alex most. Heartfelt and evocative, this romantic drama will appeal to the readers of Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen.

MY THOUGHTS

First of all, I want to thank to the publishing house Abrams & Chronicle Books for giving me a free ARC in exchange for an honest review!

First of all, I liked the romance between Alex and Isabelle and it was very emotional to read about it. The relationship between these two people is so beautiful and unique. Just reading the author’s description of it, makes me want to cry. Also, I like how the author, Ismee, tells the story in two ways. First of all, we have this cute, slow-burning romance between these two people. On the other hand, we have two emotional family stories. Even though I enjoyed the cute one, I was really interested in their families and their lives.

Isabelle chases her dreams. She wants to be a famous dancer someday and, honestly, she could be anything she wants. Her family is wealthy, but her mother has strict rules. I found very awkward the relationship between Isa and her mother, and it kind of bothered me. There are some situations when I couldn’t undrstand Isa’s mother. It’s like she is from another planet and I couldn’t help but think that she felt lost.

Moreover, Alex chases his dreams, too. He wants to be a successful poet, but his father has different plan for him. He wants him to be a sport star. This relationship between Ale and his father is even more annoying than the previous one. I was so angry about the fact how Alex’s father controlled his life. I wouldn’t say that Alex is a flat character, but there is something undefined about him. I do like more Isabelle in all this story and I see Alex as Isa’s lost part. She needed him in her life to complete her as a person.

Overall, I quite enjoyed reading this book, and I the author’s attempt to talk about certain issues is clearly seen and it’s a really good thing. I recommend this book to the people who like slow-burning romances.

My rating: 3/5⭐

Book Review: Love and Hate by Lara Wilde

Sometimes love turns into hate and hate can sometimes turn into love.

Love and Hate, Lara Wilde

✦ ABOUT LARA WILDE ✦
Lara Wilde is a young lawyer, surfer and most of all she is a Romance author with a great passion for true love stories and feelings inherent to the human nature. Lara grew up in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and also in Virginia, USA. At a point in her life she decided to follow her childhood dream of being a writer and explore the world.

As an avid observer passionate for people’s behavior, she immersed herself in different places and cultures. A thing Lara realized though, was that no matter where she was or the culture she was involved in, humans have the same basic emotions. The everyday dramas and stories of love thend to repeat within different scenarion.

Currently based on the contient of Europe, Lara loves the good wine, weather and history that feeds her inspiration to write good stories.

✦ SUMMARY ✦
Love and Hate is a novella that takes place in Portugal (Porto,Cascais, and Lisbon). It is a love story about Leonor and Manel, two teenagers who fall in love at first sight. Leonor is a young, smart girl who has a very strict parents. However, it does not mean that Leonor should stay at home every night.

Manel is a young, cute boy who takes Leonor to the parties. They dance, swim and sing at the beaches of Portugal. It was all great until Leonor meets a young member of the band who is immediately attracted to Leonor. Of course, Manel gets very angry and all jealous and he breaks up with Leonor and goes to study medicine in Porto.

Leonor is broken-hearted. She calls him everyday, but Manel never responds. She is desperate and even starts hating him a little bit. After all, she decides that they simply weren’t meant for each other. Who knows? Maybe it’s better that way because they will never see each other again. The story gets complicated when Leonor comes back to Porto and runs into Manel.

Leonor finds herself questioning about her feelings.

✦ SUMMER AND BEACH LIFE ✦
This book is a good summer read and I am glad that I read it now, during summer because all of Lara’s descriptions got me daydreaming about those stunning beaches of Portugal. You just can’t read it without wishing to be right there.

She stepped out of the car and took in the sight of her new work place. The building was gorgeous. It was a white three-story building with pink flowered vines running up each side of the entrance way. The smell of salt was in the air from the sea and with it being such a warm day, she could still feel the cool ocean breeze. Which she had always loved

Love and Hate, Lara Wilde

I think I’m in love with these descriptions because they are just what I need. There were too many descriptions like this one and it was hard for me to choose which one to post here. I really want to go to Portugal now.

She smiled in return and sipped at the rosé. It was refreshing and sweet, and in the evening sunlight, it perfectly matched the dreamy view. The fading warmth of the sun mixing with the cool ocean breeze stirred that part of her once more.

Love and Hate, Lara Wilde

✦ BARBIE AND KEN ✦
The love story between Leonor and Manel is so romantic and cute and ugggh.. It made me emotional so many times. I was sad at the beginning of the book because Manel was kind of stubborn and he did not want to hear what Leonor has to say. On the other hand, I understand him somehow. He is deeply in love with her, and just seeing her talking to that random guy was just.. painful, I would say.

I loved how Leonor was strong enough to move on with her life without him. She is a successful architect and she has it all. Also, I noticed how she changes once Manel leaves her. But, she had no choice! Of course that she would go on with her life and do her best. She deserves only the greatest things!

But, I repeat, the romance between them two is the cutest! I can’t get enough of it.

‘You know what I realized that day?’
His voice was so low, she was afraid the sea would swallow his words.
‘What?’ She prompted breathlessly, her heart hammering in her chest.
‘How much I wanted to kiss you,’ he whispered.

Love and Hate, Lara Wilde

✦ OVERALL ✦
To sum it up, I quite enjoyed reading this book. Lara Wilde is an author that will always be special to me because she writes good things, but her work is unrecognized. She is brilliant and the world should know her and her books. Love and Hate is a perfect light, summer read and I can see myself bringing this book with me on holiday. The plot was cute and easy to follow. The characters are cool and I felt like I could relax together with them. There is no need to get into a deep observation of them. All you need is to sit back and enjoy yourselves.

If you want to read something that will relax you, then I suggest picking up this book, you might enjoy it.

Book Review: The Burden of Trust by Tabitha Young

Sometimes, the heart exacts more than we want to pay

Te Burden of Trust, Tabitha Young

✦ SYNOPSIS ✦
Faced with a decision that would change her life forever, Katerine ‘Kate’ Woods took the route that seemed best with the circumstances. Only time would tell whether or not she had made the right choice. Her own family required more than a bit of finesse. From being an on-demand aunt for her niece when her sister checked out on them to dealing with her mother’s peculiarities, she just needed some solitude to get her life back on track.

Chris Cody – sexy, arrogant, and in need of of a serious attitude adjustment – enters Kate’s life in nothing less than the dramatic way known as second nature to the very handsome movie star. Armed with his own issues and in need of a good friend, Chris lands on Kate’s doorstep with a proposal to shock them both.

From New York to Florida to California, the two find themselves in a situation that is not ‘ripped from the headlines’ but makes the headlines in all the ways that Kate does not want. The bonds of love and friendship are truly tested in this moving tale about relationships, families, and life’s surprises.

✦ LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT KATE AND CHRIS ✦
Kate is that type of person who has too much going on in her crazy life. She is torn between her past and present and all she wants is to escape it. However, Chris Coddy (read the sexiest man alive) enters her life in a dramatic way and that is the moment when everything changes for Kate. Kate is a brilliant and well-developed character. She is caring and I think there’s no better person than her. She is going to kill us all with her kindness.

On the other hand, there is Chris. He is an amazing character – so strong and I loved the way he helps Kate to heal and I wouldn’t say that he made her happy. It is more that he helps Kate to learn how to be happy. I want to have Chris in my life because he would be the greatest motivational speaker. There is so,so much to learn from him, if you ask me.

✦ FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE EVERYTHING ✦
I really liked friendship in this book, it’s so good. I loved Kate’s friends because they are really helpful and they made her feel she is not alone in this. I want Kate’s friends. Can they be my friends too? Moreover, they are very protective but it does not necessarily mean that it’s something good. There’s a fine line between protectiveness and possessiveness. And this book is great example if you look the Becky-Kate-Cris relationship.

Also, I liked Chris and his friends – they are great, but let’s say I liked them 1-2% less than Kate’s friends. They are so strong secondary characters and they kept the plot interesting.

✦ OVERALL ✦
Overall, this book was very enjoyable. I loved reading about Kate and Chris – it was really great! Even though the plot was characters were quite predictable but believable, I found the plot easy to follow. It was so easy to get into the book and everything. I also liked the small fragments of drama that kept me wide awake.

I loved how emotional and interesting this book is! I cried, I laughed – and more importantly – I learnt from it. I recommend it if you like romance.

Patrick Dempsey as Andrew Hennings
Candice Bergen as Mayor Kate Hennings

✦ REVIEW ✦
Sweet Home Alabama is American romantic comedy and it was released in 2002. The movie begins with 10-year-old Jake and Melanie inspecting the results of sands struck by lighting. ✦  OVERALL ✦
Ah, I loved this movie so much! It is one cute love-story that needs to be seen at least once in life. I will definitely rewatch it soon. I am not that erson who prefers watching romantic movies, but this one was really nice. It contains all necessary elements, and the cast is amazing! I liked Melanie and I admire her for all her strength to start a new life. She works hard to get everything she wants.

However, sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. There are times when you get something and realize it isn’t something you want. That happened to Melanie. I also really liked Jake, but if I have to choose between Jake and Andrew, I would probably go for Andrew. He is so kind and understanding. He was ready to give up on everything for her. I love the way he respects Melanie. He is really perfect!

What I didn’t like in this movie was the mother role. Melanie’s mother is quite distant and she wants all best things for her daughter. She wants her to marry Andrew only to be rich. She thinks this way Melanie will have better life. The only thing I liked about this woman was that she had taught Melanie how to be a successful woman and how to fight for her dreams. On the other side, there is Andrew’s mother and she wants her son to marry someone who will bring her new political votes. She doesn’t understand feelings, she sees only facts and that’s what matters.

‘You are just like your father. One minute you are brilliant and you are controlled, the next thing you are throwing it away on some piece of ass!’

Mayor Katherine Hennings

To sum it up, I really liked this love story, it is super cute and I highly recommend it. You will not regret watching it!
