✦ REVIEW ✦
Sweet Home Alabama is American romantic comedy and it was released in 2002. The movie begins with 10-year-old Jake and Melanie inspecting the results of sands struck by lighting. Jake tells Melanie that he will marry Melanie once they are old enough for it. Now, Melanie is a successful woman who works as a fashion desinger. She loves her job, and more importantly, she adores her fiancé, Andrew. He knows nothing about her past, but he is determined to marry Melanie. However, Melanie is ashamed of her poor roots and she has adopted the surname ‘Charmichael’ thatno one knows of.

The problem pops up once she realizes that she cannot marry Andrew until she divorces Jake, the young man whom she married long ago. They are strangers now. Melanie comes back to her village after seven years to find her husband and finally to see her parents. Moreover, Jake is not happy to hear the news. He doesn’t want to divorce her because he thinks that Melanie’s new life changed her as a person.

At the same time, Kate, Andrew’s mother, suspects that Melanie is not the right person for her son, so she sends people to spy on her. Andrew comes to surprise his fiance, but he discovers that Melanie was hiding him so many things. Despite everything, he still wants to marry her.

Just then, Melanie must make the right choice. Who will win her heart? Andrew or Jake

✦  OVERALL ✦
Ah, I loved this movie so much! It is one cute love-story that needs to be seen at least once in life. I will definitely rewatch it soon. I am not that erson who prefers watching romantic movies, but this one was really nice. It contains all necessary elements, and the cast is amazing! I liked Melanie and I admire her for all her strength to start a new life. She works hard to get everything she wants.

However, sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. There are times when you get something and realize it isn’t something you want. That happened to Melanie. I also really liked Jake, but if I have to choose between Jake and Andrew, I would probably go for Andrew. He is so kind and understanding. He was ready to give up on everything for her. I love the way he respects Melanie. He is really perfect!

What I didn’t like in this movie was the mother role. Melanie’s mother is quite distant and she wants all best things for her daughter. She wants her to marry Andrew only to be rich. She thinks this way Melanie will have better life. The only thing I liked about this woman was that she had taught Melanie how to be a successful woman and how to fight for her dreams. On the other side, there is Andrew’s mother and she wants her son to marry someone who will bring her new political votes. She doesn’t understand feelings, she sees only facts and that’s what matters.

‘You are just like your father. One minute you are brilliant and you are controlled, the next thing you are throwing it away on some piece of ass!’

Mayor Katherine Hennings

To sum it up, I really liked this love story, it is super cute and I highly recommend it. You will not regret watching it!

My First Reading Memory

‘Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.’

Frederick Douglass

It is true that once you learn how to read, that it will make you free. I was so happy when I came across this quote because it is something that I would also say. Once you start reading, you start discovering new types of the world and you like it so much that you don’t want to come back to reality.

I belong to one of those nerds who have discovered the joy of reading at the early stage of life. When I was a kid, I would ‘steal’ gradfather’s newspapers even though I couldn’t read back then. I wanted to know what was so interesting on that pages because my grandfather was constantly reading them.

I remember staring at those pages for hours. They were pretty… I was very young when I learned how to read. I was super excited when I started my elementary school because I could finally read something. My first book that I had to read for school was Grimms’ Fairy Tales. It was one beautiful edition that contained wonderful illustrations. I liked it very much.

And just then my teacher gave me one big, important task. I had to read it and I had to write my opinion on that book. I was so excited but at the same time also scared. I didn’t know what to write. I came back home and I know I started to cry because I was afraid that my teacher wouldn’t like my opinion. I asked my Mother for help because I didn’t know how to form my opinion into one coherent article. We had so much fun!

‘The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read’

Mary McCleod Bethune

I liked all Fairy Tales, but my favourite was Cinderella. I was so obsessed with that story that I wanted to read it every day. I was fascinated by magic and I couldn’t explain why. I just knew I loved every word and I loved Cinderella as a character. I drew Cinderella in my notebooks and even painted her. I felt so proud!

‘Well, there’s one thing: they can’t order me to stop dreaming.’

Cinderella is very speacial to me for so many reason. I love her and, even now, if I could get back to read my very first book/story, I would choose Grimms’ Cinderella again.

Book review: Romanov by Nadine Brandes

✦ PLOT ✦

“Romanov.
For that name alone, bound to my blood like a Bolshevik is bound to the Russian Revolution, I am destined to die. Because not even royal blood can stop bullets.”

Romanov, Nadine Brandes

Anastasia, the girl who is also called Nastya in the book was given one task – to hide the Matryoshka doll on her way to exile in Siberia. The Matryoshka doll contains magic spell and even Nastya doesn’t know what’s the purpose of it. Nastya was told that this kind of magic might be her family’s rescue.

However, things get complicated when the leader of the Bolshevik army comes after them. Nastya must release the spell in order to survive. What makes this story more interesting is the fact that Nastya meets Zash, the attractive soldier who is entirely different from the rest of the Bolshevik army.

It is if you separate the two – old life and new life. But once you learn that it’s all one life and each day is a new page, it gets a bit easier to let your story take an unexpected path.

Nadine Brandes, Romanov

✦ CHARACTERS ✦
I love Nastya so much, she is so caring, smart, and understanding. She would give her life to you if she could. Her family was her everything and she proved it so many times. When her Papa tells her that this kind of magic will save their family, she isn’t looking for explanations, she just.. She just believes him. And I think that’s beautiful.

Alexei is a 13-year-old boy suffering from haemophilia and he is very sick. However, he is so funny and brave and I love him for that reasons. I think the author of this book has done an amazing job here because I could feel all that love and care when it comes to this character. I think Alexei would make a perfect leader, just like his Father.

Another important character in the book is Zash. He is troublesome, but attractive young man who is a guard of the Romanov family in their home. Most of his time he spends talking with Nastya. However, things change when Zash must choose between Nastya and his own life.

I would like to mention Joy – Nastya’s adorable puppy! It followed her on her journey because that’s what loyal friends do!

✦ OVERALL ✦
This book was really interesting and I liked it so much. I liked Nastya and she is my favourite character there. If someone else were in her shoes, they would probably give in and break. She is so strong and I wish everyone knew about her! Also, I liked the romance between Nastya and Zash because it is so soft and beautiful.

Here, my focus was more on the characters rather than on the plot itself. While reading this book, I felt a bit awkward about Zash and I was more interested in Nastya and Alexei. Moreover, I liked the elements of magic, it is so incredible! I love how you can learn the words and write the spells and the way they sink into your skin – it was really amazing!

I highly recommend this book to everyone! There’s a lot to learn from this story and the characters are so good that they will leave you speechless. Can’t wait to read more books written by Nadine Brandes.

Let’s talk books

Hi everyone and welcome to my page!

In this post I want to introduce myself because, after all, it would be weird to read my posts without any prior knowledge about me. My name is Ella and I am 25 years old. I live in Bosnia and I am here to share all my thoughts on books, movies, TV shows, and music. I was thinking about creating this blog a long ago, but somehow I did not have courage. Yet, here I am. Talking about all my hobbies, sharing my passion for these things and I honestly hope that some nerds will like it.

In my free time, I read. I will read anything as long as I find it interesting. Some of my favourite genres include fantasy, contemporary, and classics. I read every day, every single free minute. I guess it is something every bookworm would say. However, you can also find me watching some movie late at night. My favourite movie genres are fantasy (shocking, right?), drama, saga, and mystery.

And that’s it. 🙂 If you have something to share with me, let me know in the comment section below. Have a nice day! ♡
