Hello After a Long Time!

Hello my dear book fellas,
it feels good to be back here again because I missed you. I took a little break right before Christmas and I haven’t posted anything since then. My blog and Instagram are still there but in two months they are left with zero posts. It came all of a sudden and to be honest, I didn’t plan this. I didn’t plan on taking this big break. I thought it will be like for a couple of days, but here we are. Anyway, I’m glad I took this break because there are too many big, new things in my life. They are, like, lifechanging things and I had to get used to them. First of all, in December, right before Christmas I got married. It was a lovely day and everything was great. I was planning to post more about the wedding, but since this blog is more about books, I decided not to post these details about it. We had a lovely time and now I am a happily married woman.
Another new thing in my life is that I got the job. I’m a kindergarten teacher and working with children is really great. I enjoy working there. I started earlier in January and I must admit that I was a little worried about working with children because they can be mischevious. All of my worries disappeared after a week because I saw how brilliant, inspiring this job is. It brings so much joy and I love it there.

When it comes to reading, I got to say that in December I haven’t read anything which is okay because I was busy back then. Also, in the first week of January I didn’t read because our families and friends came over and I barely had time to myself. Everything changed somewhere in the middle of January when I decided that it’s reading time. First of all, I read Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Actually, it was a reread for me but I felt that I needed something great to get me back on the track. I finished the amazing Six of Crows and only then I realized that I don’t own the second book Crooked Kingdom. I had it on my ereader, but I wanted to read the actual book. So, just like that I went to the closest book shop and bought it for me. I was so happy! I haven’t started reading it yet because there is some obligatory reading to do, and after that I will read Crooked Kingdom.

Six of Crows: 5/5 ⭐

In January I also read The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. I have read all three books in this series and it was good. I enjoyed it and my favorite is the first book, which is also called The Hunger Games. My least favorite is the third book and I found it a little borring, but the ending was so huge! Brilliant and I loved it! It was also a reread for me because I remember reading it a few years ago, but back then I have read only the book one and I’ve never got to read the rest. Now, I borrowed it from the library and I had a really nice time reading this series. I will probably get back to it again sometimes in the future.

The Hunger Games: 5/5 ⭐
Catching Fire: 4/5 ⭐
Mockingjay: 3.5/5 ⭐

I started my February with the book called This Train is Being Held by Ismee Amiel Williams and I’m enjoying it so far. I received this book in the mail in the last week of January. I want to thank to the publishing house abrams&Chronicle books for sending me the proof in exchange for my honest review. The book will be out on February 11th and I’m looking forward to it! The book is great and I will leave my review once I’m finished.

Love Looks Pretty on You by Lang Leav | Highlights

A Love Letter to Bali

I will never forget those slow, languid days, warm and balmy. The sun was a pomegranate red, ripe, and full of promise, painting the pink sky. We stayed in a Grecian-style villa, overlooking the shoreline, watching the waves crash onto the lazy stretch of sand below.
The daylight sunk into starlight like a slow transition, as we lost track of time altogether. My skin grew luminous and shone from the inside, glowed like a lantern. White crescent moons appeared at the bottom of my fingernails. My hair grew thicker, wilder. We were feasting on exotic fruits and midnight conversations that drifted into the sea salt breeze.
We slept. We woke up in the half-light to watch the sun come up. We didn’t write a single word.
Mischievous monkeys scampered across our balcony. Frogs hopped in our path and out of sight again, the sound of their croaking ever-present. Tiny birds darted in and out of our line of vision like thoughts.
The half-moon yawned when we waved goodbye to another moment, lost to memory. The walls learned our secrets like how you like your coffee black and I like mine with cream and sugar. We left something of ourselves behind.
He feels like the culmination of every good deed I’ve ever done.

From: Love Looks Pretty on You by Lang Leav

As you can see, this is another post about the last book I read called Love Looks Pretty on You. I like the author’s word choice and the emotions that the author gave us are wonderful. There is some soft vibe in the book that makes you feel emotional and I think only a few authors can achieve it. Lang Leav was successful in her language to show us all these emotions. To describe how you feel is quite complex task to do because there is always this variety of emotions. Everyone fights their own battle and there are always the good and the bad feelings inside of us. Happiness versus sorrow. Peace versus anger. It’s up to you to decide how you feel and how your life is going to look like. You just have to understand your feelings.

Also, the author’s descriptions are marvelous. They are the upper level of the language and it’s something that will always attract me. As you can see, Lang Leav did an amazing job at this point and I want to read such descriptions all the time. The book Love Looks Pretty on You is full of these amazing descriptions and I highly recommend you to read it. Do check it out!

In my previous I left you the Amazon link, so you can order it if you want.

MY THOUGHTS
Love Looks Pretty on You is the first Lang Leav’s novel that I have read and I must say that I am not disappointed. I really enjoyed reading this book and it is surprising that the mentioned topics could be represented this good way. The book tells a story of a woman fighting against her feelings. At some point, she is loved and she feels pretty. She can freely say that she is happy. That kind of happy that makes her rethink her emotional state. Is she really completely happy? Her heart says she is. Her brain says she’s not, but she could be.
Well, what makes her think think that way?
There are two things that ruins her eternal happiness. The first thing is her past. While I was reading this book I got the feeling that the girl loved in her past, but it was not that kind of love that will make you happy and all satisfied with your life. I think that it was one-sided love. Which brings us to the second thing – her self esteem. The girl did not love herself in the past. She was never satisfied with her and her life and unfortunately such things make us lose the people in our lives.

There is our past self among the ruins. She, the girlish one, the foolish one, the one who longs for a place with us here, where she is not welcome.

Love Looks Pretty on You, Lang Leav

In this book the author emphasizes the new beginning, our rebirth. We need to understand that we are only human beings and that all of us make mistakes. It is natural thing to make mistakes. We have to accept them and learn from them. Throughout the book, I realized that the girl was really attached to her parent. Seeing her Father abusing her Mother was the source of her anger, she wanted revenge. I love the mentioned girl with all of my heart because despite everything, she remained a good person. She knows how to love and she learns from her loss and her past. She is everything that we all want to be.

Your Right to Love
It is your right to define love on your own terms. Love between two consenting adults is never wrong, no matter how much anyone tries to convince you it is.
Be with the person who makes you happy. Who makes your heart sing.
It is your right to endlessly curate your life. Let her be herself. Or she will be somebody’s else’s.

Love Looks Pretty on You; Lang Leav〛

Anxiety
I struggle with things that are as easy to others as breathing.
Like breathing. Like answering the phone. Or sending that email I have been meaning to for weeks.
I panic when I am asked out to dinner, even if it’s with someone I really want to see.
It’s hard for me to commit to anything, and when I do, I overthink it until my brain tells me I have made a mistake, like a rat caught in a maze, trying to claw its way out.
I don’t know why I am like this. People ask me why I can’t do anything without jumping through a thousand thoughts, like hoops. But sometimes I wonder if my inability to function in the real world is really such a bad thing. I wonder if that’s why I’ve spent so much time sheltered in my imagination.
And because I can’t live in the real world, I create worlds to belong to. And I wonder if the very thing I’ve always been told is my weakness, has all along, been my strength.

Love Looks Pretty on You; Lang Leav〛

To conclude everything, I really enjoyed reading this poetry collection and I would like to read more of the author Lang Leav.

My rating: 4/5 ⭐

Wedding Vibes Everywhere!

Happy December, friends!
This is my first post in this month and this time I will not be complaining about not posting earlier because guess what I’m getting married! And I think this is a good reason for not writing quite often. Yes, I’m beyond excited about everything and I had like a billion things to do, but somehow I managed to remain calm. My wedding preps are almost done, every single detail is planned and all I have to do now is to stay calm and wait for my wedding day. The wedding will take place in one of the hotels in my city, on December 21st. I know it’s like two weeks from now and even though I look calm outside, I swear I’m screaming inside. I have everything – my wedding dress, my bridesmaids, and decoration. Everything’s here and I hope I will have control over these things. Huh, now putting these thoughts into words gave that strong feeling of anxiety. I guess it’s normal thing. Anyway, I’m really happy and I can’t wait to get married.

On the other hand, previous two months were quite hectic for me and I didn’t manage to read anything. I really had so many things to do and I mentioned all of them in my previous posts. I was so busy and I missed reading so much. I hope I will read at least one or two books before the year ends. I think I will go for some light read, maybe some good holiday book. Unfortunately, I really have no idea what to read and your book suggetstions are very welcome at the moment. I want to read something romantic, snowy, and christmasy. Speaking of the holiday romance, have you guys seen the movie Let It Snow? I remeber four years ago I read this book by Maureen Johnson, John Green, and Lauren Myracle and I really loved it. I was so happy when I heard that they are making the movie based on this book and I even downloaded it. I just couldn’t find the time to see it.
For those of you who have seen the movie, what do you think about it?

I kind of realized that the last two months are all about my personal things and it’s less book oriented, but it’s because we get busy sometimes and we barely have the time for anything. I didn’t give up on reading and I will never do that. Reading has a really special place in my heart and it’s something that makes me happy. I hope you understand me now.

Have a great weekend,

November Activities: My Graduation

Hello friends,
again I broke my promise by saying that I will be more active this month. It did not happen. If you follow me here you probably know by now that I suck at planning. It just never goes as planned. However, I have big news, are you ready?

I am proud to say that this month I graduated!

I am so happy and I can’t believe that I’m not a student anymore. It’s over now and now I’m a teacher. The funny thing is that my graduation surprised me at first because my final exam in Syntax was way too difficult. I studied but I thought I will have to re-sit it next time.
Also, I made a promise to myself that this is not the end. I will continue studying and exploring things that I’m interested in. In my opinion, we should encourage ourselves to always do something new. To learn something new. Life is useless without learning and knowing new things. It’s really important and I think people don’t talk enough about it.
We should motivate younger people and show them that without education your life is not complete. Let’s all agree on this one, please.
On the other hand, my graduation surprised me and my life turned upside down somehow. Everything’s different now and I barely read anything this month. I started reading Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky, but I read only like 20 pages of it. I opted for this book because I really love The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I have some strong emotions towards that book. It’s one of my all-time-favorites. I dare to say that Imaginary Friend is somewhat different and a bit of unusual considering the fact that Chbosky wrote it. I also started reading Love At First Swipe by Gareth Fosberry and I already like it. It feels good to read something other than a fantasy. One of the many reasons why I barely read is that in December I will move out. We are still buying all neccessary things for our home and honestly it takes a lot of time. How’s been your November so far? Have you read any good book?

Have a lovely week,

Book Review: Never Google Heartbreak by Emma Garcia

BLURB

When her fiancé Rob breaks off their engagement for the third time, Viv does what any girl would do – she Googles heartbreak.

Confronted by tales of misery, she decides to set-up her own self-help website for the broken-hearted. But as Viv passes through the three essential stages of grief (denial, vodka, disastrous haircut), she becomes determined that it’s not too late to try and get Rob back.

When things get out of hand after a drunken declaration of love at an extremely inappropriate moment, Viv’s scruffy, tequila-swilling best friend Max is there to pick up the pieces. Viv starts to realise that maybe the real thing has been under her nose all this time, and now – one ex and a massive error of judgement later – she has to face the question:

What’s the craziest thing you’ll do for love?

MY THOUGHTS

I was really looking forward to reading this book ever since I saw it on goodreads. I thought I was going to love this book because I like everything about female fiction/chick-lit genre. It’s always delightful, funny, and interesting but I had a really hard time reading this book. I almost didn’t finish it, but I don’t like to keep my books unfinished so it’s probably my only reason why I read the entire book.

Vivian is a 32-year-old woman who just broke up with her fiance, Rob. She’s desperate and she wants him back. She would do anything to get him back. However, Rob finds new girlfriend called Sam and after a month, he wants to marry her. Sam is everything Vivian wants to be – she’s successful, gorgeous, smart, and interesting. Despite Rob and Sam’s engagement, Vivian tries so hard to get Rob back. She wants him back in a way that it’s so irritating and unbelievable. A thirtysometing-year-old woman would never do that. You can’t be that much desperate to ‘steal’ a man from another woman. Grown-ups don’t do that. Another thing that bothered me so much was that relationship between Vivian and her best friend Max. They have been best friends since college, and immediately after Vivian’s break up, she jumps into Max’s bed and they spend few days together. Max tells her he loves her. All that in two pages. Vivian tells him that she loves him too, but as soon as she leaves his apartment, she is back with her ex fiance. These things are WRONG. Also, the relationships between Vivian and her friends are just poor. For example, according to Vivian, Lucy is her best frend, but I can’t see that relationship that best friends are supposed to have. They are friends, but based on the conversations they have, they can’t be best friends. My favorite character is Max and there is one part in this book where the author describes Max’s place, and it’s probably my favorite part. Also, he’s an artist and I loved his passion for his work.

To sum it up, my big expectations made me slightly disappointed. This book is not for me, but according to other people’s reviews, people who got their heart broken loved this book and they say it helped them during their crisis. In case you are broken hearted, I suggest reading this book because it might make you feel better.

My rating: 2/5⭐

October Activities: What I Watched This Month

Danger doesn’t lurk at every corner. It’s just hanging out, waiting for fear and horror to show up.

Unknown

Hello readers,
I have been inactive for the past two weeks and I almost missed the whole month of writing. I barely posted anything during this month and I’m truly sad because of that. October is one of my favorite months of the year and I can’t believe I didn’t post more often. However, many things had happened over this month, the good and the bad ones. I think I will start with the bad things because I would like to end this post in a positive tone.
First of all, my first neighbor passed away two days ago. It was shocking news for everyone because he wasn’t sick at all. To make things worse – he was only 40. I’m still sad and I can’t believe that he’s gone. But, eh.. That’s called life. You exist in one second and then in the other you don’t. You disappear. Just like that. What I can’t stress enough, here, is that we worry too much. We are almost never satisfied with our lives. We long for material things, which is wrong sometimes. We forget that we all die and we will be forgotten so easily. Love hard. Respect others. Respect yourself. That’s what matters.Secondly, I had a really important exam this month. I studied every day and I still don’t know my results. It was difficult, but I hope for the best. It was the exam from the Syntax and I really hate that subject, but I can’t complain. I need to pass it.
On the other hand, I spent a lot of time with my boyfriend. We are still buying new things for our new home, but things got easier this month. We bought all the furniture and it finally looks like home now. I’m so happy and I can’t wait to move in! Also, we spent a lot of time in cinema this month. We watched some horrors because if not now, when? First we watched IT Chapter Two and it was really scary, I loved it. It’s probably the best movie I watched this month. It’s based on Stephen King’s novel and it’s so good and I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Secondly, we saw Polaroid, which is also horror. A high school student, Bird, is given an old Polaroid camera. Being a huge fan of photography, she starts taking photos of her friends. However, she notices the weird, dark shadow standing behind her friends. It gets creepy when her friends, one by one, die after being followed by the shadow in the pictures. To understand her next move, Bird needs to study the past. I really liked this movie, but it’s not my favorite because in some moments I thought that its plot is too simple and predictable. I give it 3 out of five stars.

Lastly, we saw Countdown which is also horror. I must say that I’ve been dying to see this movie since I saw its trailer. Basically it’s about a phone app that can tell you the exact moment of your death. It all starts as a joke until this app proves to be correct for some people. When a nurse downloads this app, it tells her that she has only three days to live. She is extremely nervous and upset, but being followed by a scary figure in reality, she simply must find a way to survive. I liked this movie because it grabs your attention from the first moment. It’s super scary and I like the touch of the modern technology. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

And that was it for this month. I know it’s two days from Halloween, but I think I’m done with watching horrors for this year. I must admit day I have seen more movies than I have read books in this month. I somehow gave myself a well-deserved break from reading because I read many books in September. I am pretty much satisfied with my activities during this month. October was a really good month for me and I am so excited for November!

How about you? How was your October?
