How to deal with Book Hangovers

I do not get book hangovers.
– said no book lover ever

Do you know that feeling when you finish a brilliant book, and you just can’t move on to read something new? Well, congratulations – you are one of us! You experienced a book hangover. This kind of hangover is very common among bookish community, which includes readers and, sometimes, authors. The symptoms of book hangovers are very clear – crying and lying on your floor or in your bed. You’re asking yourself ‘WHY? OH WHY IT HAD TO END,’ referring to the book you’ve just finished.

If you are experiencing a book hangover, what to do? Here are some tips that will make your hangover bearable.

First thing first – It might sound silly, but go and find a new book to read. And good luck!
I know it is very difficult and you just don’t want to read anything else, but you have to! You are SO going to read something new, and you are going to love it. And you are going to experience the book hangover all over again.

2. Spend 24 hours in your room searching for appropriate memes that will express your feelings. Let the world know how much you are suffering right now. Go and tell your friends about your feelings, they must hear you out.

3. If you simply can’t accept the fact that you will have to read something new – then try reading some fanfiction. They are great and, more importantly, they are based on the book you love. It’s all about your old, favourite characters.

4. Try rereading your favourite book. Start it from the very beginning and hope that this time it will be different and that your book will never end.

5. Write a review. Because telling the world about how you feel is never enough. Why not to leave a note (review) about your feelings. It’s a smart thing to do.

Book review: I Heart Hawaii by Lindsey Kelk

‘I am a woman who has it all,’ I said quietly, staring at my own face reflected back in the screen of my iPhone. ‘I am a woman who owns her power.’
The version of me looking back rolled her eyes but I went on regardless. ‘I am strong, vital and beautiful.’
And tired, emotional and, according to the tag in the front of my pants, wearing knickers back to the front. Although they were clea, so at least there was that. The affirmations were my best friend, Jenny’s idea.

I Heart Hawaii, Lindey Kelk

✦ SYNOPSIS ✦
When Angela Clark’s best friend Jenny invites her to join a press trip to Hawaii, three days of sun, sea and sleep sounds like the perfect antidote to her crazed life.

At the work in New York, she’s supossed to be the face of Having It All. But the only thing Angela feels she excels at is hiding in the printer cupboard, eating Mini Cheddars and watching Netflix on her phone and if this is living the dream, she’s more than ready to wake up.

A few day away with Jenny sounds like exactly what she needs but Angela’s talent for getting into a scrape guarantees nothing goes to plan – and not even the most beautiful beaches, blue skies and daiquiris will get her off the hook…

✦ SUMMER DASH ✦
I Heart Hawaii is the last book in this amazing series, and its title makes you want to grab the book and go read it somewhere on the beach. Ideally, that would be somewhere in Hawaii, but let’s keep it real. This book is so romantic, brilliant, and funny. I absolutely loved it!

‘Look at the ocean. I’ve never seen so many shades of blue. ‘
As we rode higher up the rocky road, I could see the shoreline in the distance and the outline of another island a few miles away across the ocean. On the other side of us was a science fiction landscape, cast in every single shade of red and brown that had ever been conceived.

I Heart Hawaii, Lindsey Kelk

The author’s descriptions of Hawaii are so realistic and, I’m usually not really into long descriptions, but this book could be all about Hawaii and I would still read it, because, oh my God.. If I could, I would pack my suitcase and go to Hawaii.

We sat down just as the blue sky started to turn pink, laughing and joking, and most importantly, eating, until the sun was completely swallowed up by the ocean. What seemed like a hundred candles of tiki torches glowed in the sand and the moon rose above the water, keen to show us she wasn’t afraid of a little flashy competition.

✦ ANGELA, JENNY, AND ALEX SQUAD ✦
First of all, this is my favourite squad, I want to be one of them! Angela Clark is an amazing woman, I admire her. She is the mother of Ellis. Ops, I mean Alice. She is a strong woman and the way she keeps the balance between her career and her private life. She has the most handsome husband in the world, the cutest baby, the bestest friend, and she is very successful. Do you need anything else?

Jenny deserves an award for being the best friend in the world. She is gorgeous, smart and kind. She is the new Oprah, I knew it from the beginning. I love how she always has some new, fantastic ideas. She always has solution for any kind of problem.

I love Alex Reid! I’m so jealous of Angela for being his wife. He’s the most handsome man walking on the planet. Actually, he exists only in the I Heart series, which is painful for me. I want him to be real.

✦ OVERALL ✦
I loved this series, I don’t want it to end. I remember reading this series almost ten years ago, and I was obsessed with it. I loved everything about it and these books will always be something I would gladly reread.

I have read this book under 24 hours and I’m still hungover. Somehow I managed to write this review and express my thoughts and feelings about this book. All I know is that I loved it and it’s my favourite summer read so far.

Definitely a huge 5 star read for me that I highly recommend.

Book Review: Dark Soul Experiments by Bre Hall

What if you could relive a past life by touching a piece of it?

✦ SYNOPSIS ✦
Ren Morris is a snarky, sixteen-year-old girl living in the middle of nowhere. When she meets cute and mysterious Peter in the local antique shop one day, he buys her the most unique charm bracelet she’s ever seen. Soon, she discovers an object hidden inside one of the charms and is transported to Civil War-era South Carolina, where she lands in the body of Southern Belle, Charlotte, one of her past lives, just days before Charlotte’s death.

When Ren returns to the present, Peter explains that her soul has been cursed. Splintered. She has been forced to die tragically, and far too young, in each lifetime. It will happen again – soon – unless Ren can trust Peter and his unconventional experiments to help stitch her soul back together and stop the curse once and for all.

As Ren begins to discover her past lives, she also realizes just what’s worth living for in her present one. But when she uncovers a secret, Ren starts to question the outcome of the experiments and whether or not falling into the past will in fact save her from a doomed future or if it will be her final undoing.

✦ CHARACTERS ✦
I think that Ren is a brilliant character and, in this story, she is a heroine. I love her so much! She is curious and energetic, but aren’t all teenagers like that? She is so caring and kind! I liked the way she treats her Father and Gran . Huh, her grandma is annoying, but I still found her funny, she always makes that special kind of orders like putting Whiskey in her tea, she is hillarious.

Also, I really liked Alfie, especially in the first half of the book. He is protective, brave and clever. He is a real gentleman and I think he was ready to die for Ren. However, the author had something different in their mind.. *no spoiler*

Am I allowed to say that I have some feelings for Peter? I know that I am not supossed to like him or anything, but I fell for him from the beginning. Is it possible to like someone who is not a good person? Yes, it is definitely possible. He is selfish, arrogant, but oh how handsome and intelligent! I want to read the story from Peter’s point of view, please.

The guy we’re actually looking for is about five-foot-ten, curly black hair, jawline models envy. He also has a tattoo of a bird’s wing on one of his fingers.

✦ RELATIONSHIPS ✦
My favourite relationship was that between Ren and Alfie. Their friendship is everything. Alfie is so understanding and protective and he is just amazing. Everyone needs one Alfie in their life.

How long have we been friends?
What does this have to do with anything?
Just answer the question, will you?
She shrugged. I don’t know. Forever?
Exactly. ,he said. I’ve put up with your wild antics forever and I’m going to keep putting up with them, I’m going to keep being here. Forever.

✦ MAGIC ✦
Another important factor is definitely magic. Beside humans, we learn about Discentem and Auxilium, whose brains are structured to function on a larger scale than humans. I loved how Ren learns to levitate it was so magical. My favourite was the ability to move the objects around her, it is amazing.

✦ OVERALL ✦
I loved this book so much. I cried, I laughed, and I enjoyed. And I would do it again, it’s worth it. Everything in this book was perfect for me! The plot is very unique and interesting. I also loved the concept of story within a story.
My favourite thing about the book is the character development. They are wonderful and so realistic that they made me feel like I am a part of their story.

The book will be available on 8/6/2019
It is definitely a five-star read for me, I highly recommend this book.
